This project is owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is located in New Vernon Township, Mercer County.
This project was a three-span bridge over Lake Wilhelm that required rehab on both the substructure and superstructure. The existing surface of the deck was scarified using hydro demolition and then overlaid with latex modified concrete. Prior to placing asphalt over the structure, link slabs were placed over the transverse pier joints and the bridge deck was waterproofed using an elastomeric membrane. The link slabs were the first of their kind in Pennsylvania and consisted of joining the longitudinal rebar across the joint, placing gasket material as a seal, and filling with a hand batched Ultra High-Performance Concrete.
This project was completed in October of 2020.
