This project is owned by The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is located south of Tionesta on route 62 in Forest County, over the Allegheny River.
The project consisted of constructing a new 1,124ft, 4 span fabricated structural steel bridge beside the existing truss bridge. This resulted in Mekis Construction being able to eliminate a 43 mile long detour and greatly decrease the disruption to the traveling public.
The piers for the new structure were built on 11 foot diameter caisson foundations that extended over 80ft into the ground. The abutment foundations consisted of over 2,200 linear feet of H-Pile. The superstructure has over 3,800,000 pounds of fabricated structural steel with 120 inch tall girders.
After the new structure was completed and traffic switched over the existing truss was removed by blasting and the old piers were removed.
The project was completed in the spring of 2018.
